Theodoros Grammatas

Professor of Theatre Studies, National and KapodistrianUniversityof Athens

Born in Mytilini in 1951, he graduated from the Philosophy Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1975. He attended a post-graduate course in Paris at Paris X-Nanterre and at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes and obtained a D.E.A.in 1976  and a Doctorat de 3e cycle in 1979, entitled “La notion de Liberté chez Nikos Kazantzakis” (“The notion of liberty in Nikos Kazantzakis’ works”).
In 1981 he was appointed at the Department of Modern Greek Literature of theUniversity ofIoannina. In 1986 he was elected Acting Assistant Professor, where he remained until 1989, when he was elected Assistant Professor and in 1994 he became Professor of Modern Theatre and Culture at the Department of Paedagogy and Primary Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He taught, at both graduate and post-graduate level,  Modern Greek Theatre and Society, Theatre for Children and the Young, Theatre in Education, History of Modern Greek Theatre, Ancient Drama, Comparative Theatrology and Sociology and Theatre semiology, which also comprise his scientific and research interests. He is director of the Art and Speech Laboratory of the Primary Education Department since 2002.
